About Tony’s Coal Fired Pizza & Slice House

Tony’s Coal Fired Pizza and Slice House pays homage to two very different styles of pizza, New York and New Haven, as well as traditional Chicago Italian Beef sandwiches. One of the only pizzerias of its kind on the West Coast, customers can find authentic New Haven and Connecticut style pizza cooked in a genuine 1000-degree coal fired oven. Upon the first taste and smell you will find why Tony’s Coal Fired Pizza is one of the best in the world. A neighbor to Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, the Slice House is just one place where you can find great Coal Fired and New Haven Pizza and traditional Chicago Italian Beef and Chicken Parm sandwiches.

Tony’s pizza was far from good. In fact far from decent. Starting off with the atmosphere, it was a to go spot so nothing really to say there. Grab and go. Takes a while for your premade pizza slice to be “heated up”. The service was also quick and snappy. NOW THE FOOD!! I had the classic cheese pizza and a vegetarian. The cheese pizza tasted like cardboard. I am not sure if this was given to me room temperature or if it was heated at all. It tasted like it was made yesterday. The cheese was very leathery and the crust was very hard. Barely any sauce. Overall very hard to bite into. The veg pizza was a little better. Had more flavor and sauce as well. The feta was a nice touch. But even then, it would have been a decent pizza slice if it was heated properly. Overall 2/10.

Stopped in to grab some slices to take to our hotel room. For take home slice pizza it was pretty good. Would loved to have sat down and tried their specialty there. Kind of a pizza geek after spending lots of time in NYC touring pizza and taking classes to learn the art of pizza making at home. Hope that their restaurant version is better than the slice take out. Saw a lot of Tony's boxes around town so clearly it's a popular spot.

Spectacular pizza. Delicious taste with nice crispy bottom. Despite their generous size and thinness, they're quite easy to pick up and eat without making a mess. Would highly recommend getting a slice and having it at Washington Square Park right across.

Ordered Sicilian Combo. For my first experience I ordered just a slice. It looks great in the display case. I received bread with a super spicy sauce as if tomatoes and oregano didn’t exist. You would think there would be cheese and all the toppings listed even if it was just a little bit. It had nothing.

We just got slices because the wait time was 2 hours for the main restaurant. The margarita was phenomenal, the sauce was great, and the crust was crunchy. Definitely lived up to the hype.
